On 25 September, from 9:00 to 9:45 (New York time), Dr Michael Makanga and Lara Pandya will be chairing the session 'Africa–Europe cooperation for health security in a changing climate' at the UNGA80 Science Summit.
This session aims to reflect on the critical role of Africa-Europe R&I cooperation in tackling current and future health challenges posed by climate change.
We will showcase how Global Health EDCTP3 and its partners contribute to advancing our understanding of climate-driven impacts on infectious diseases and human health, accelerating the development of essential health technologies—including vaccines, diagnostics, medicines, and vector-control innovations—and strengthening human and institutional capacities. The session will also underscore the value of EDCTP networks and communities in enabling faster, more effective, and better coordinated responses to epidemics and climate-driven outbreaks.
Dr Michael Makanga will also participate in the following events during the Science Summit:
- Africa's Scientific Leadership: a Catalyst for Global Progress, 22 Sep, 09:00-11:15 (New York time)
- Strengthening Science Partnerships for Global Resilience, 22 Sep, 14:00-15:30 (New York time)
- Science, Standards, and Sustainability: Ensuring Verified Impact for the SDGs, 23 Sep, 09:00-11:00 (New York time)
- Global Health Connector Event: Transforming Women’s Health through Science and Sustainable Partnerships, 23 Sep, 13:00-16:30 (New York time).
