About the prizes
The EDCTP Prizes recognise outstanding individuals and research teams from Africa and Europe who have made significant achievements in their research field. Additionally, the awardees will have made major contributions to strengthening clinical research capacity in Africa and supporting South-South and North-South networking.
The prizes are awarded every two years during the EDCTP Forum.

Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize
The Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize recognises an individual who has made outstanding contributions to advancing health research and strengthening research capacity in Africa.
The prize honours achievements that have had a significant and lasting impact on improving health and well-being across the African continent.
Outstanding Research Team Prize
The Outstanding Research Team Prize recognises collaborative research teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe working on infectious diseases in the scope of Global Health EDCTP3.
The prize celebrates teams whose work demonstrates scientific excellence, strong collaboration and meaningful impact in advancing global health research.
Outstanding Female Scientist Prize
The Outstanding Female Scientist Prize recognises female scientists who have made significant scientific contributions while also strengthening research capacity through mentorship, training and leadership.
The prize highlights women who are helping to shape the next generation of researchers in Africa.
Scientific Leadership Prizes
The Scientific Leadership Prizes recognise emerging research leaders who have demonstrated scientific excellence and leadership potential in global health research.
Two Scientific Leadership Prizes (one woman and one man) will be awarded to researchers who are permanent residents of an EU Member State or a country associated with the Horizon Europe programme.
Two Scientific Leadership Prizes (one woman and one man) will be awarded to researchers who are permanent residents of a sub-Saharan African country which is a constituent state of the EDCTP Association.
