Our partners

  • €176 million
    committed by 60 contributing partners
  • €32 million
    provided by other co-funders
  • Strategic partnerships
with WHO, African Medicines Agency, Africa CDC and more

For over 20 years, EDCTP has brought together African and European partners to advance health research through coordinated action, shared priorities and pooled resources, enabling progress that would not be possible individually.

Global Health EDCTP3 collaborates with a wide range of public and private partners to foster greater collaboration in global health. This includes pharmaceutical companies, Product Development Partnerships (PDPs), international organisations, research institutions, regulatory authorities, civil society organisations and philanthropic organisations, among others.

We structure our partnerships in three categories:

  • Contributing partners: Any private entity, or a public organisation from countries outside the EDCTP Association, that co-funds and often implements projects.
  • Other co-funders: Public entities based in EDCTP Association member countries whose contributions support specific projects and are treated as equivalent to those made directly by the EDCTP Association member countries.
  • Strategic partners: Organisations that collaborate with us on a broader set of activities that extend beyond mere co-funding or project implementation and help advance and align our shared strategic goals.

Contributing partners: co-investing to accelerate research

    contributing partners

  • €176 million

  • €92 million

    pledged for project proposals

Data: September 2026

60 contributing partners have committed over €176 million in co-investments. Of those, 30 organisations are registered in Africa (50%) and 26 in Europe (43%), with the remaining six based in the USA and China.

A further €92 million has been pledged by aspirant contributing partners supporting project proposals currently under review.

Contributions to the call for proposals

Of the committed amount, €49.4 million has been mobilised through calls for proposals developed jointly with five contributing partners:

  • Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF): €18 million
  • Gates Foundation: €15.5 million
  • Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI): €14.5 million
  • BioNTech: €1 million
  • Leprosy Research Initiative (LRI): €0.4 million

In addition to providing resources, these contributing partners bring valuable scientific expertise that helps shape our calls for proposals in line with the latest research and portfolio developments, while promoting alignment with their own investments and initiatives.

Contributions at project level

Contributing partners can also provide funding and expertise to support specific projects, with their contributions scored as part of the evaluation of their applications.

Notable project-level contributing partners include:

  • Tuberculosis vaccines: IAVI, Biofabri, Uganda National Health Research Organisation (UNHRO), Afrigen, and Access to Advanced Health.
  • Next-generation antimalarial medicines: Novartis, GSK, the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV).
  • Networks of excellence and epidemic preparedness: the University of Global Health Equity, CTI, Africa CDC, the Ifakara Health Institute and the INDEPTH Network, supporting our five networks of excellence that bring together more than 100 institutions to strengthen clinical and epidemiological research capacity.
  • Treatments and vaccines for viral and parasitic diseases: Laboratorios Liconsa, the Mundo Sano Foundation and Valneva.

  • €21 million

    pledged for project proposals

Data: September 2026

These organisations are public entities based in EDCTP Association member countries (including public health agencies, universities and national research centres) that also provide co-funding contributions supporting specific projects.

Member countries of the EDCTP Association are part of the Global Health EDCTP3 governance structure and declare their planned annual co-funding contributions when preparing annual work programmes. Contributions from public entities based in these countries count toward their countries’ commitments to Global Health EDCTP3, while supporting specific projects rather than work programmes. As public authorities, beyond providing financial resources, these organisations often help promote policy and product uptake by participating in research consortia.

41 other co-funders had provided more than €32 million to support projects. Of these, 29 (71%) are based in Africa and 12 (29%) in Europe.  A further €21 million has been pledged through project proposals still under review.
