Training the next generation of African health researchers

The sub-Saharan Africa Health Research and Innovation (SAHRI) Fellowship Program is a Global Health EDCTP3-funded project aimed at training a new generation of skilled researchers in sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative joins together African and European research institutions with BioNTech.

The program will train 12 talented researchers through a comprehensive 24-month Master of Science in Tropical Medicine, specialised courses, research projects, and industry internships. With structured mentorship and a 12-month return-home phase, fellows will apply their skills locally, foster partnerships and enhance regional health research capacity.

Pioneering mRNA and beyond: BioNTech’s global mission

BioNTech aspires to translate science into survival by addressing pressing health challenges we face as a global society. Based on BioNTech’s mRNA technology and experience in the field of immunotherapy, the company aspires to accelerate biomedical innovation against complex pathogens and deadly infectious diseases. The company is clinically testing prophylactic mRNA vaccines targeting some of the deadliest infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV and diseases with epidemic or pandemic potential, such as mpox.

Making a difference together: partnering with Global Health EDCTP3

Becoming a contributing partner of Global Health EDCTP3 offers organisations a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful global health initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Contributing partners can include countries, international organisations, or any public or private legal entities, other than the Global Health EDCTP3 members or their constituent or affiliated entities.

By committing financial or in-kind contributions, partners can participate in specific activities and projects.
