Alex Dodoo

Senior Advisor to the Director General, African Medicines Agency

Prof. Alex Dodoo is the Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the African Medicines Agency (AMA, since October 2025. He was Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (2017–2025) and President of the African Organisation for Standardisation (2022–2025). He previously served as Associate Professor at the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry and was the Founder/Director of the African Collaborating Centre for Pharmacovigilance and Surveillance.

Alex studied at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana (BPharm); King’s College London, UK (MSc, PhD); and the University of Alberta, Canada.

He served as President of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (2009–2012), President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (2008–2012), and Board Chairman (2009) and Board Member (2017–2025) of Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority. He is a member of the CEPI Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), overseeing participant safety and trial-data integrity across vaccine safety trials on emerging pathogens.

He has authored three health books for lay readers — Healthy Secrets, Healthy Secrets SUPER, and Healthy Secrets XTRA — and is a registered pharmacist in Ghana and the UK.
