Maria do Céu Patrão Neves

Full Professor of Ethics, she is the President of the National Ethics Council for Life Sciences, Vice-President of the European Group on Ethics for Sciences and New Technologies of the European Commission and Member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. Coordinator of the BERC-Luso Project – Ethical and Regulatory Training Project in Portuguese-speaking African Countries, approved and financed by the EDCTP2 Program, which took place between 2018 and 2022. She was a consultant on Life Ethics to the President of the Portuguese Republic and Member of the Board of Directors of the International Bioethics Association. Currently, she teaches at several universities and is a member of several Ethics Committees, also coordinating international projects, particularly within the scope of the Africa-EU partnership. She is an ethics expert and project evaluator for the European Commission, as well as an Ethics Consultant and Chair of Ethics Advisory Boards (EAC) for multiple European research projects. She was a member of the European Parliament (2009-2014).
