EDCTP Prizes 2027: applications are open

Applications are now open for the EDCTP Prizes 2027, recognising outstanding individuals and research teams from Africa and Europe for their achievements in global health research and innovation. 

The 2027 edition will award four prize categories, highlighting excellence in scientific leadership, collaborative team research, and gender-balanced scientific contribution.

The EDCTP Prizes celebrate excellence in research addressing infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and recognise strong contributions to strengthening clinical research capacity and fostering equitable South-South and North-South collaboration.

Winners will be announced during the EDCTP Forum 2027, which will take place from 5-9 April 2027 in Madrid, Spain.

Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize (€50,000) 

The Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize aims to reward an individual in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements in advancing health research and capacity development in Africa with significant impact on the wellbeing of the African population.

Outstanding Research Team Prize (€50,000)

This prize is awarded to outstanding research teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe working on diseases in the scope of Global Health EDCTP3.

Outstanding Female Scientist Prize (€20,000) 

The prize is awarded to female scientists who have made a significant scientific contribution and built measurable impactful research capacity through training and mentorship for the future generation of researchers/scientists in Africa.

Four Scientific Leadership Prizes (€15,000 each) 

Two Scientific Leadership Prizes (one woman and one man) for researchers who are permanent residents of an EU Member State or a country associated with the Horizon Europe programme.

Two Scientific Leadership Prizes (one woman and one man) for researchers who are permanent residents of a sub-Saharan Africa country which is a constituent state of the EDCTP Association.

How to apply

Eligibility criteria and application requirements are available in the Rules of Contest.

Applications must be submitted directly by the individuals or teams applying for the prizes through the Funding and Tenders Portal and should include letter(s) of recommendation from at least one reputable scientist.

The deadline for applications is 2 September 2026 at 17:00 (Brussels time).
